Proud Mama *Texas* asked:

If someone were to be pulled over, they have insurance, a valid inspection sticker etc but no drivers license what is the penalty?
Would they impound your car if you had a newborn and two toddlers with you?
Or would they cut you a deal/break?

If you are an illegal alien…absolutely nothing.

If you are an american citizen you face fines and having your car impounded. flaming_liberal415

brother in law got a $500 fine for first offence exactly the same conditions. They told him to drive home park it and get his licence samantha24

Depends where you live, and if it was never issued or was suspended and for what. Here’s the California rules:

And in some states they can impound your car, although if you had kids in the car I doubt they would do that. tonalc1

If you do not have a valid license then you do not have insurance, since being licensed is a requirement in all 50 states. If you have insurance and your license is revoked then your insurance cancels as well. The vehicle may have had insurance (if someone else put it on there) In which case you’d get driving without a license plus whatever you were stopped for, and the owner of the vehicle (if other than you) can be charged with wrongful entrustment. Depends on what part of the country you are in.

Probably get arrested, car towed/impounded. Kids turned over to children’s services and you also charged with endangering your children. M P

You jeopardize you chance of getting a license in the future, plus you’ll be obligated to pay a hefty fine. It’s not worth it, unless it’s a matter of life or death. Orbach

guess what? since this person doesn’t have a valid license, they aren’t covered by insurance so whatever happens, that’s on you. what i want to know is if you think you can drive so well, why not take a driving test??? pinkreb004

I think in this day and age of hypersensitivity to kid’s safety, their is a more then trivial chance that the care would be impounded, and social services called to take the kids.

having the kids makes it worse, it doesn’t proved a “get out of jail free card” Barry C

  9. CGIV76 says:

Your scenario is incorrect. Insurance companies only cover valid licensed drivers, so if you don’t have a license, you don’t have insurance. The penalty would be operating a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license, and no insurance. Even if the car belonged to someone else, the insurance would not cover you. You could be facing around a $1500 fine, plus suspension of future driving privileges. CGIV76

I agree with the other person… “Flaming_”

however,,, you will get a ticket and probably sent home,,, it really depends, is you license valid, suspended, or do you even have one…

if it is suspended,,, of to jail
if it is valid and you for got it,,, ticket.. dont know the cost,, but I believe in Texas $500.00

if you dont have one,,,, same as above

why would you even consider driving around with out a license and having children with you?

Did you know that if, You KNOWINGLY drive a motor vehicle, without a valid drivers license and are involved in a wreck, and one of the kids is hurt, or not PROPERLY in a car seat,,, you can go to jail for child endangerment,,, God forbid if they were killed,,, vehiclular manslaughter, or involuntary vehicular murder… depends on your state

now that you are scared,,, go get your license!!!!!!
if you are illegal,,, stay off of the streets until you become a legal citizen More or less
