I will be traveling to Australia the middle of August to visit friends there .I am trying to find out about two things, one of those being a drivers license. I have read so much that I am getting a bit of overload. Also medical insurance too. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello Phyllis, You are allowed to drive in Australia on your current drivers licence, in most case’s, for up to 3 months. You can even get a rental car on your country’s drivers licence. This link gives all the info for each state in Australia. If you are going to Western Australia you can drive for up to 12 months on your licence.

Regarding medical insurance, you do need to get that from your own country before departure.

Hope this has helped you out. Cheers from an Aussie, and enjoy your stay. Garry. Garry R

You don’t need an international license. IDLs are not a true license anyway. They are simply a translation tool. If your language is English, there is no need for one. Your valid drivers license will be recognized in almost every country on earth. For medical insurance check with any global insurance company. Sometimes it is called “travel Insurance” entidtil

If you want an international driver license, you would need to go to AAA. Your local dmv usually can’t help you with it. donnag085
