But where I live, you have take an approved gun safety/concealed handler's class. This usually is taken at the local rod and gun club or through an independent NRA certified instructor. After one receives certification, one has to go apply for the permit at the sheriff's office and pays a fee. The office does finger printing and runs a background check and then it is up to the sheriff to approve or disapprove the license. Once that happens, you get your license in the mail.
