In the Us there is no microlight rating.

There are different requirements depending on what country you are in
if you are in the UK, I suggest you contact the BMAA, they can give you better guidance than you can expect here at "Yahoo guesses"

If you are not in the UK, add detail as to your location. cherokeeflyer_redux

Your time training and flying in a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) can be transferred to private pilot. You will need first to take the FAA physical. Then proceed with the private pilot curric.

Many of the old LSA aircraft were light planes flown by private pilots. E.G. Piper Cub, Taylorcraft, Ercoupe, etc. Alan

I'll answer from a student being in the U.S....

There is no 'Ultralight' license, per se. And, if I am up on my regs, there is no credit given for flight time in ultralights toward a Private Pilot Certificate, unless the UltraLight is certified by the FAA, and I don't know of any that are.

So, I would say, in the U.S., you won't have to fly less hours by getting credit from hours flown in an ultralight. Although, you migh be able to learn quicker, depending on habits that you might have (or not have) from flying one.

Good luck in your endeavors. Thom
